THE STORY OF FLOAT FITNESS &
HOUSE OF WELLNESS
In 2017, when Float Fitness opened its doors in the sunny Bay of Plenty — right in the
heart of Mount Maunganui’s vibrant Main Street. The studio quickly became known
for its uplifting energy, playful aerial classes, and strong sense of community.
Then came the Covid lockdowns, which brought unexpected challenges. The building that housed
Float Fitness became unusable, and the studio had to find a new home. Around the same time,
House of Yoga went up for sale - a space filled with history, heart, and possibility.
Seizing the opportunity, Lou and Meg joined forces to purchase House of Yoga, and
with a vision for something bigger, they evolved it into House of Wellness - a
nurturing hub for movement, mindfulness, and holistic wellbeing.
The beloved aerial rig from Float Fitness made the move too, finding a new home
under the House of Wellness roof.
This marked the birth of a new era - where Float
Fitness continues to soar as part of the House of Wellness family.
Two years on, the two names are now woven together - Float Fitness lives within
House of Wellness, still offering the same uplifting aerial experience, now alongside
a rich range of yoga, massage, and wellness therapies.

I first tried Aerial training at Float Fitness as a fun challenge with a friend—little did I know it would open up a whole new world of movement for me. I went on to complete Fundamentals 2, Aerial Yoga, Restorative Yoga, and Pilates. The training was relaxed and fun, but Lou’s instruction was so thorough I left feeling confident to teach right away. I now run aerial classes in my own studio, and the tools from the training continue to guide my teaching. I highly recommend Lou as a master trainer and her courses to anyone looking to grow.
I recently completed the Float Fitness Instructor Training with Lou Kirkham at the beautiful House of Wellness in Mount Maunganui. Lou’s passion and supportive teaching style made the experience truly transformative. The course blended technique, philosophy, anatomy, and safety with a strong sense of community. As a Pilates Instructor and Personal Trainer, I’m excited to integrate the hammock into my work and contribute to the House of Yoga, which already feels like home.
Thank you, Lou!
I first tried Aerial Yoga in 2016 at Float Fitness and was instantly hooked. When I asked Louise how I could go deeper, she encouraged me to do the teacher training. Float Yoga proved to be a safe, low-impact way to move, breathe, and reconnect—especially valuable in a small town like Ohakune. Since qualifying, I’ve opened a home studio where locals can grow at their own pace. Eight years on, I’m still learning in the hammock—it’s a gift that keeps lifting body, mind, and soul.
